American multi-instrumentalist RP Collier (Robert Patterson Collier) visual artist, musician, writer - born 1955 in Manhattan, NYC, currently resides in Portland, Oregon. He studied guitar, flute and sang in a madrigal group in his youth, then began building found object instruments around 1975 after coming across the work of Harry Partch. Robert did extensive work with lamellaphones, with a related album released on the Lonely Whistle label, as well as many self-released albums (thru CD Baby) using a variety of instruments, software and conceptual approaches. Predominantly working in the studio, for him the studio is a laboratory for experimentation and exploration... with the word "experimental" not meaning radical, but rather small gestures and subtle changes to various sonic aspects and musical contexts. When not shaping sounds and compositions, he is often looking for the Lost Chord. |
